It is very important to have the correct bow tension and care, you also should avoid dropping your bow. The bow must be loosened all the time when not being used, especially the bow must be loosened when being stored in the violin case. The timber stick can expand so much by the heat inside of the case. Over time tension will cause bow stick and hairbreakage.
Tighten your bow before playing by gently tuning the tension screw clockwise. Avoid making the bow hair too taut– the separation between the bow stick and hair should be about the width of your little finger. If the bow tension is too tight, the bow tip can break or bow hair can pull out.
Loosen your bow after playing by turning the screw approx. 3-5 half turns anti-clockwise. Always loosen your bow before putting it back in the case, making sure there is a small amount of tension still on the bow. Do not have your bow screw out of your bow at anytime.
